Post by SBR Sun Jul 13, 2014 8:28 pm

So Chikky comes to NYC and Mass this weekend for their only shows in the area this year coming up. A bunch of my friends are on family vacation, so I'm seriously considering going to the NYC show for 25 bucks standing room only. (Why are they running a concert venue? IDK)

Anyway so with less than a week to the show this is the official card on their website.

    1) Top Trios Tango!
    Amasis/Ophidian [The Osirian Portal] vs.
Jigsaw/The Shard [The Pieces of Hate]

    2) Rematch from “You Only Live Twice”!
“Smooth Sailin’” Ashley Remington vs. Chuck Taylor

    3) An Awe-Inspiring Atomico!
UltraMantis/Hallowicked/Frightmare/Blind Rage [The Spectral Envoy] vs.
    Sidney Bakabella’s Wrecking Crew

    4) Four Corner Elimination Bout!
Obariyon/Kodama [The Batiri] vs. Haack n’ Slaash vs. ? vs. ?

    5) One on One!
Silver Ant vs. Arctic Rescue Ant

WTF is this? Why can't you be old Chikara?! Still might go. Really upset though.

Also their three June shows are not up on SMV....what's up with that?1

The top three matches look good. Taylor/Remington was one of the real bright spots from the first show back.

They added Kingston (I guess he's not retired) vs JFdC. I'll probably go. Also, where in the blue hell is Icarus?!

I have decided against going to the NYC show tomorrow. Just really not in love with the card at all. Plus I'd have to stand the entire God damned show. But alas I will still give Chikara some money and buy two shows on SMVOD. I feel this is a good compromise.

I really want to like this Chikara, but since the return every card has been fairly underwhelming for me.

Yeah I'm gonna get the return show and another tonight and see how it's holding up. Haven't watched any of their new stuff yet. I liked WiF but infusing WiF with the Chikara name hasn't been peaking my interest. I think KOT could be epic.

Looks like KOT will still be fun times.

Johnny Jeter hasn't wrestled since 2008, so it will be nice to see him back in action.

Chikara had some shows in French Canada last weekend that I totally missed because Chikara hasn't been lighting my world on fire but I'm very excited for KOT. Should be a ton of fun.

Your telling me this is not on PPV? How did that crap promotion get IPPV in the first place?

I don't think anyone is calling this a crap promotion. Also it isn't that hard for any company to get iPPV. I think the idea for this show not being iPPV was that it would have guys wouldn't appear on iPPV. But it isn't really looking like that's the case anymore.

Am I the only one really underwhelmed by this lineup? We'll see who the last team is but this really doesn't feel as special as most KOT fields normally do

NOT CHIKARA! there was another promotion which had an IPPV with guys with pretty bad gimmicks.

On the other note, even if the guy's would not regularly be on IPPV, I Would like to see the show, and i would have trouble going to some place in Pennsylvania from Mid NJ for 3 nights, but i would pay to see the show. Since IPPV is not that hard as you say, why does chikara not put on live or pre recorded show's?

They put on live ippv's... Live shows live shows kill smaller wrestling companies (TNA)

There was multiple interviews (an Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana for example) where Quack spoke very candidly about Chikara as I guess, in some ways a very risky business venture to the point where he (Quack) has yet to make money off of it.

Pre-recorded shows would imply they would get a TV deal or something...

You know there's like EVERY CHIKARA SHOW EVER over here right? >>>http://www.smartmarkvideo.com/chikara

Hell, you can even stream a good bit of them at smvod.com

I've been absolutely underwhelmed by everything Chikara has been since it's returned. KOT doesn't stray from that at all. Which is really a bummer because I want to love Chikara again, but nothing they've been doing appeals to me.

I would suggest looking at the line up from the first few KOTs, and the line ups are about the same, but we liked those in home teams more than the ones they're using now.

Also I've watched the first show from Chicago, and I liked it more than the return show. So based off of those two shows only it looks like my enjoyment of CHIKARA shows should continue to rise. (Damnit who threw away my charts)

Man no way. 2007 had 2 Japanese teams, TNA guys, a PWG team, A Canadian team (2.0 weren't regulars yet) and luchadors. This tournament has chikara guys, the spirit squad and some UK guys who were in the states anyway.
