Re: Lucha Underground season 1
From the taping I was at, the in-ring action was incredible. The main event was contested under rules that were a bit unusual, but the wrestlers pulled it off incredibly well.
Also, there were a couple of things on the show fans may view as controversial. Since Chris DeJoseph (a former WWE writer, who also performed as Big Dick Johnson) revealed it on MLW Radio, women do wrestle men. However, it's treated like a video game or action movie where women aren't treated as being dainty and helpless against their male counterparts.
I also got to see a dark match (although cameras taped it) featuring Brian Cage and Hernandez (not against each other).

I mean Chikara, PWG and AIW have been doing men vs women wrestlers for a long time, it's not really that weird. But I really wish I did get the El Rey Network, I would like to watch some fun wrestling once and a while.

True, but those promotions aren't nationally televised so they aren't subject to the same kind of scrutiny. It also doesn't help that the majority of American media is currently in a state where any kind of male on female physicality is misconstrued as domestic violence.
In Lucha Underground's case, it's good that they got the right talent to make that work in Ivelisse Velez (formerly of Tough Enough and NXT) and AAA's Sexy Star.

Indeed you are correct. While the fans can be used to men vs women it will be interesting to see if any media jumps on this when they debut.

It will be interesting if any media covers this company.

They'll get more coverage than TNA has ever gotten.

Lucha Underground
Anyone else see the 3 minute trailer running for LU on YouTube? Seems WSX-ish which isn't a negative, but man outside of ricochet and Johnny nitro I'm not super excited

Lucha Underground
So Lucha Underground started its run on El Rey Network two weeks ago. Anybody else been watching it so far?
If not, they posted up the incredible main event from the first episode between Johnny Mundo (John Morrison) and Prince Puma (Ricochet):
It's also worth noting that if you don't get El Rey Network, there's a good chance that you get UniMas, where a Spanish version of the show airs Saturdays at 4 PM.

I watched the first episode on Unimas since i didn't realize it started already. It was interesting and the main was great. I do get El Rey though, so the 2nd episode is on the DVR, probably watch it tonight or tomorrow.

I would suggest UniMas, I really hated Matt Strikers commentary on that Puma/Mundo match. I also don't get El Rey.

Striker and Vampiro's commentary is AWFUL... I watched part of the show Wednesday evening and holy crap they made me want to change the channel.

Re: Lucha Underground season 1
Striker is his usual unbearable self, spouting off references only he gets and taking shots at WWE. Vampiro comes off much better on the Spanish commentary, especially with former WWE announcer Hugo Savinovich leading that aspect of the show.
I also preferred that the UniMas version is in HD, as El Rey isn't in HD (at least on DirecTV).
I still watched both versions of the first episode and will likely continue watching both as there are subtle differences in each version; they don't just dub English commentary and vocal tracks over existing footage. They actually shoot segments twice in Spanish, provided that who's in the segment actually speaks the language.

Re: Lucha Underground season 1
This week's show was really good. It made me care and be impressed with Rickey Reyes. Also the heel turn at the end was incredibly well done. The overall presentation of this show is really good.

Re: Lucha Underground season 1
This week's main event was absolutely insane. It was a Triple Threat featuring the debuts of AAA luchadors Fenix, Pentagon, and Drago, and Lucha Underground has put it up for free on YouTube:

Caught episodes 3 & 4 on El Rey last night... Just fucking awesome stuff.
So easy to just catch up and know whats going on, whos who, etc. Theyre doing a great job of pretty much everything.

This week's YouTube Match of the Week featuring Johnny Mundo pulling off one of the most insane stunts I've ever seen in wrestling:

Lucha Underground returns with a new episode on El Rey Network tomorrow night. That episode will feature the 20-Man Aztec Warfare Match to crown their first-ever champion. I was in attendance for this episode (I'm standing on the rail at the top of the staircase where the wrestlers will enter from).
In case you missed it, here's the 10-Way Match from the last episode that aired, which played a role in establishing the order of entry for Aztec Warfare:

When did they tape this? October?

Re: Lucha Underground season 1
Yes, the taping was October 5th. It was supposed to air in December, but when the debut got pushed back a couple of weeks, it instead ended up airing as the first episode of 2015.
