Re: 2014 World Cup
An inspirational speech involving unquantifiable things like "freedom" and tapping into vague fears of terrorism and European elitism might do the trick.

If you can't watch the game, then Lana & Rusev win. Can he really live with that on his conscience?

What if we all just tweet the president and tell him to make tomorrow a holiday?

Never have I been happier to be wrong. Feels a little like we're backing into the last 16 after that Portugal game and a loss, but we're through. Now they can rest up and maybe get Altidore back for the next game.

Klinsy said there's a good chance he's back if we got through so yeah. Who did we matchup with for next round?

Belgium, who have all the talent in the world, but haven't looked like world beaters thus far. I like our chances.

Re: 2014 World Cup
I really like our chances against Belgium. Not only have they not looked good, they were in a pretty soft division. They have spent the week playing low quality ball. I am not sure any group played higher quality games than our group. If we don't have a let down or some sort of meltdown, we might be at our very best going into the game Saturday.
Brazil just narrowly escaped defeat today. Holy wow. They were about an inch away from losing in the extra periods and then an inch away from going into sudden death penalty shots. They got a bit lucky and I honestly think Columbia might put them down in the quarters.

Re: 2014 World Cup
I was rooting for Mexico, but I don't really feel bad for them. There was one in the first half that really should have been a pk. Such is the way the sport goes sometimes. They played really well for 70 minutes but they ran out of steam defending. They gave up on attacking way too early. The Dutch are too strong and too dangerous to just let them shoot for the better part of a half.
I actually feel more sorry for Chili, losing pks and being about an inch away from goals to win or keep it going twice.

Re: 2014 World Cup
Like what is the percentage thus far of the games going to extra time (non-penalty) or shootouts?

Re: 2014 World Cup
Well the group matches end in ties, so only 4 games so far COULD go into extra time and 2 have - 50%. On top of that, the Dutch won their first knockout game in the 11th hour. and there have been tons of goals in stoppage time that decided games. This has been, so far, the most entertaining and compelling World Cup I have ever seen (watching since 1994 - I was 10).

Re: 2014 World Cup
On Mexico, any team that has a coach outright defend their fans use of the Mexican equivalent of a homosexual slur deserves to get ko'd in the best way possible. (I also had the KNVB going far so no complaints there)
If we beat Belgium (I believe) we will probably get Argentina so yeah, gg.

Re: 2014 World Cup
Yep, unless Argentina get upset, they would be next. I picked Argentina to win and I would NOT put money on the U.S against them, but they have looked beatable. Messi has more or less been their saving grace so far. They have great possession, but tend to want to play with the ball too much in front of the goal. I am not trying to get too far ahead though.

Wow. And here I was upset I had to work and miss the game. All I would have been was a witness to assault and battery. Hope Argentina/Netherlands isn't that much of a laugher.
