Wednesday Night Impact Empty Impact moving to.... Wednesdays!

Post by Spudz Thu Aug 14, 2014 5:54 pm

    from pwinsider

Tonight will be the final night that TNA Impact Wrestling airs on Thursdays.

Starting next week, the series is being moved to Wednesday evenings. The decision was made within the last several days. My belief is that the timeslot will remain 9-11 PM, although I have not heard that 100%.

One of the reasons behind the decision was all of the additional competition coming on Thursdays with the new Fall season, specifically NFL games on CBS.

With the exception of the ill-fated Monday night move against WWE Raw, Impact has been airing on Thursdays on Spike since April 2006. From October 2005 until April 2006, the series aired on Saturday evenings.

    - TNA announced the following:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2014) – TNA today announced its flagship program, IMPACT WRESTLING, will make a permanent move to Wednesday nights at 9/8c on SPIKE TV beginning next Wednesday, Aug. 20.

"Moving IMPACT WRESTLING to Wednesday nights gives existing fans and new viewers an opportunity to enjoy both wrestling and live sports even more throughout the week," said TNA President Dixie Carter.

IMPACT WRESTLING has enjoyed sustained ratings growth this summer, drawing over 1.5 million viewers each week this quarter, and is among the most watched cable series in key male demos in its timeslot

DAVE: TNA will be moving to from Thursday to Wednesday nights starting next week on Spike TV. The move will be permanent.

The change is likely for two reasons, one is the stronger scheduled of NFL events on Thursdays in the fall, and the other is the chance that Smackdown will be moving to Thursday during the fall season.

The move is interesting since the show is only under contract for six or seven more weeks. Some would consider this move as a good sign, because if the show wasn't going to be renewed, making a big change because of football, or Smackdown, wouldn't be necessary.

Right, but why would they care about football or SD if they weren't continuing broadcasts anymore after the 25th?

Credit where credit is due, moving the show to Wednesday's where they won't be crushed by Football and WWE Smackdown! is actually a smart move here.

So, probably due to the day change or what not, TNA averaged 852,000 Wednesday. Although can we really blame the change for this? TNA really didn't do that good of a job in terms of advertising on twitter or the website (I understand why spike didn't seem to care too much) about the new slot. Outside the Joe/Low Ki match, I thought it was a lackluster show with not much really feeling that hardcore. Perhaps this was due to Abyss and Bram featuring guest star Gumby the ladder going on first or second.

    1) How do you lead a show with that terrible Abyss match?

    2) Joe/Ki was rly fun.

    3) If the ratings stay terrible on Wednesday do not expect a renewal.

The change to Wednesdays was so sudden that they didn't even have it mentioned on commentary during last week's show. There was like three 15-second plugs for it during commercials.

This was certainly the weakest show of TNA's run at the Manhattan Center so far. The Joe vs. Ki match was very good though. It probably should have kicked off the show and been given more time.

The hardcore format ruined this show because these stipulation matches occurred without any real buildup, aside from Abyss vs. Magnus. Like the lead-up for the Last KO Standing match was shown just a few minutes before the match even happened.

The Six Sides of Steel match was just tossed out there without any buildup the previous week. And two of the participants (Gunner and Magnus) didn't even have televised entrances, thus coming off as afterthoughts in the bout.

I think having two specials on 2 weeks apart.
kind of ruins the mood to have them too close

Honestly, the Abyss match was DOA because they've already done so many stips. I don't really blame them because Bram and Abyss don't really seem like technical guys but jesus, give it a week to sink in maybe?

Agreed, if these shows continue to do 0. anything, TNA is done.

Abyss matches are usually DOA anyway because of how terrible he is now. I honestly prefered Joe Park.

Sorry for double post, According to Wrestlezone.com Velocity Network (Discovery offshoot) might be looking at picking up TNA Impact.

So far this seems to be a last resort for TNA as they'd have to drastically cut production (a result of paying for it themselves, I'm sure) as well as release a lot of their top guys (who don't seem to have a problem leaving due to front office incompetence anyway) as well as Velocity being a smaller network than spike is.

Yeah they stole the news from Bryan and Dave audio from Monday. Dave basically said if they have to take the deal TNA as you know it is dead. They would have to cut production/all big name talent/staff stuff like that.

But I actually do get that channel so I'll be able to watch dead TNA every week.

That seems like a very odd fit, given that Velocity's programming is shows about cars. Then again, Speed was in talks to air wrestling at one point (the Jeff Jarrett team wrestling pilot that was filmed a few years ago), so I guess the precedent has been set already.

Velocity is HD channel and while it is on uverse I don't subscribe to the hd service, prob like most other people as well. it would be bad move if they do that, unless they do second airings on SD Dsicovery channels (which also owns part of the hub network)
