Favorite Indy Guy? Empty Favorite Indy Guy?

Post by dragondragon Sat Mar 08, 2014 10:55 am

While I suppose most people at some point were Indy wrestlers, who is your favorite? This can be either all time or current or both, and we'll limit this to US indys.

Personally I'll say Ophidian. Awesome moveset, both with and without Amasis, he has the best looking gimmick I think I've ever seen (apparently he wanted to use an Arbok color scheme but never got it made) and he's a great guy if you ever have the chance to meet him.

Fair point. He can get a bit too campy for me, but yeah, quality

I don't think I really have a "favorite" indie guy right now, which is probably why I'm not as into them as I used to be. Don't get me wrong, I really like Steen, Gargano, Cabana, Chuck Taylor etc. but I don't think anyone of them are really my favorite.

Plus WWE keeps signing my favorite indie wrestlers (Claudio, Generico).

This is sort of the same for me. When I really started to get into indy wrestling in 2005 a lot of those guys are in WWE right now (and some in TNA). I basically keep up with the big indies like DGUSA/Evolve, ROH, Chikky and PWG but I don't buy as many shows as I used to.

Back in the day there was nothing like a brand new Chikky DVD showing up at the door.

Honestly for me, it's the Bucks, over the past year and half(maybe more) they've really come into their own from a character perspective, and they are just so entertaining to watch. I'm not saying they're the best wrestlers in the world or anything but I can't think of the last Bucks match I watched that wasn't entertaining

On the flip side my least favorite indy guy has to be Michael Elgin, dude is just the definition of "meh" to me and doesn't interest me at all.

Chucky T and Gargano. Gargano usually makes the three hour drive to Cleveland for an AIW show worth it, and Chucky T is Chucky T, and I hope he always is.

I don't want to sound like other deity name sharing members so I'll just leave it at that.

Gargano for me too. Much like Swarles and SBR, most of my previous indy favorites are currently with WWE.

It's been Gargano for years now. Honorable mentions to guys like Kingston, Chucky T, BJ Whitmer, Ethan Page & Josh Alexander though.

I haven't been able to keep up with the indies like i used to so my picks will obviously reflect that, but Kevin Steen and Chris Hero are next level good to me. They create moments. The Bucks are endlessly entertaining in and out of the ring to me. That said, Jay Briscoe is probably my favorite. I think the Briscoes have developed into some of the most entertaining wrestlers still on the indy scene, and I have always like Jay a little bit better. I know it is more or less who they are, but their psycho hillbilly thing is pretty awesome and legit kind of scary. It is a shame they aren't going to get a shot in the E.

They're who they are, and after which ever one made the anti-gay remarks, I couldn't take them seriously. Although they made the age of the fall

I mean... I get it. I often forget that they are crazy bigots in real life. Honestly, I probably try to forget this. Admittedly I make allowances for them because I think they are great wrestlers, and, for the most part at least, try not to think much about who wrestlers REALLY are.

There is no excuse for that shit in my mind though. I don't blame the E or TNA for not signing them. I guess the shame is that all that talent is wasted, and they are - at LEAST - partially to blame for it.

For some odd reason, I really dig Brian Cage so yeah. bounce

Of course Steen (his Weekend Escapades-videos are quite good) and Hero.

Most of the PWG roster when I think about it

This is why I think people have no business venting their personal beliefs on a public stage.  Not only what you say but also how you say it is always going offend someone.  Better to keep your mouth shut than to risk alienating a potential audience.

Yeah, i wonder if there will be a time when we all look back and laugh at how bad so many people were at using their public forum when it was given to them. Facebook, and particularly twitter, changed the game in terms of voice and broadcast and just so many people have no concept of the tensions between public and private with regard to these forums.

I am going to try to go to Evolve on Wrestlemania weekend so I may have a whole new lot of favorite indy guys.
