Is TNA live PPV dead? Empty Is TNA live PPV dead?

Big Dave Meltz wrote:While not confirmed, a sign that TNA may be done with the PPV business is that John Gaburick on Twitter said that Lockdown would be airing on television this year, and be taped on 1/9 at the Manhattan Center. Lockdown and Bound for Glory were generally TNA’s two biggest events of the year. In advertising for the 1/9 taping, it’s announced it will be every match in the cage using the slogan the “six sides of steel.” There was talk that as far as product revamping they would be returning to the four sided ring, but that advertising would indicate a six-sided ring at the very least on 1/9. And it would be stupid to change to a four-sided ring for a few weeks and then go right back. The 1/7 main event is Bobby Roode vs. Bobby Lashley for the TNA title. The 1/8 show has Matt & Jeff Hardy vs. Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards, which indicates Edwards & Richards are at least committed as their original deals were up, which is why they lost the titles.

What a wild ride TNA in 2015 will be, huh?

It's odd that as other promotions start entering the live US PPV market (ROH and NJPW via GFW), that TNA is easing out of it.

Granted, PPV is a dying platform, but I wonder how TNA plans to make up that revenue that they would lose from PPVs. However, I can't imagine that they really make all the much from those shows anymore.

It's great for the fans though, as it's much easier to keep up with the product without having to shell out money for PPVs. Say what you will about TNA, but they really made an effort of putting on some high quality matches over the last few months (Tag Title Series, Lashley vs. Roode, Lashley vs. Aries, etc.).

Even though Lockdown is not a PPV this year, but a television show on Destination America that will be taped on 1/9 and air shortly thereafter, Dixie Carter on Twitter said that they would be doing a few live PPVs in 2015. That’s weird to take your traditional No. 2 show of the year off PPV, put it in January when it was usually in April, but still remain in the live PPV business. Others close to the situation have said that the production budget was cut way back for the tapings this week in New York, both less equipment and less people working the shows. There are no plans any time soon for either house shows or live PPV shows.

It's possible they're putting Lockdown on TV (and moved up in the year) was to create a buzz about them on Destination America. Or to regain some trust in viewers that paid for Bound For Glory.

I would believe that logic. TNA needs some hooks for their first few shows on Destination America. The first show had the novelty of being a live special (or at least being billed as one) with a major world title match to headline it.

TNA's going through a restructuring after switching networks, so they need to put all of their attention into making people aware what channel that they've moved to. Plus, with ROH doing more PPVs and talks of GFW possibly distributing another New Japan show in the Spring, the void left by WWE in the PPV market is quickly filling up and becoming increasingly competitive.
